Flutist, composer and improviser Mark Alban Lotz talks to Ton Maas about the music he collected on his many trips around the world.
In this fourth and also last episode of Lotz of Music, Lotz’s selections again leads us to distant places, but first we will hear the Meinrads Kneer’s Phosphorus Ensemble with ‘Das Bild’, after a poem by Christian Morgenstern:
..Aus seinem Rahmen trat dein Bild
und schlang den Arm mir ums Genick –
und, eingewurzelt Blick in Blick,
durchgingen wir ein fremd Gefild …
‘German language at its best; would it be possible for someone not to like it?’ says Ton Maas. The remainder of our musical journey will take us to the Far East: Japan and Taiwan to end up at Fangyi Liu’s bathroom. In the blink of an eye, we will find ourselves at Marius Beets – currently Mark’s neighbour – for a short stop in our home country. Before you know it, we’re listening to Arifa with Sjahin During who lives around the corner of Ton Maas’s place. So, world music will come to you from all corners of the world, but can also be heard at places nearby.
Finally, we will meet Portuguese singer Maria Joao Fur with her magnificent voice and with whom Mark performed at night in a Lisbon club. And so, we will gradually reach the end of the ‘Lotz of Music’ series.
Mark will keep on saying ‘this is abolutely fabulous’.
