This newsletter informs you about my musical activities. Published 3 á 4 times a year. I dedicated my life to music and I am delighted you make a part of it. (There are some issues with the layout of this newsletter. This will be solved with the next edition.)
2018 saw my wheels spinning in India, Poland, France, Germany, Portugal and Italy. Next stops are Belgium, Taiwan and Okinawa (Japan). Three new ensembles came into live. Check them out. They are ready to rumble!
I am the curator of the ‘Focus On Holland‘ edition of the ‘International Improvisation Festival‘ in Taipei this november. Together with bass player Wilbert de Joode, trumpet player Felicity Provan, cello player Rogier Hornman and drummer Onno Govaert we will hold concerts and give masterclasses. I’ll hop to Okinawa after for a solo recital, some gigs, a workshop (and some ‘Scuba Diving’!).
‘MØDE’ is a brand new ensemble and I am very very proud of to make part of. Modern jazz music slithering with life. With legendary pianist João Paulo Esteves da Silva, danish drummer Martin Anderson and bassist/composer Nelson Cascais. It saw it’s premier at Hot Club De Portugal in june 2018. Spring tour in Spain in 2019.
‘The Baudoins Meet Lotz/Purves’
A combination of 2 duo’s at the border line of improvisation and French Gascognan music in ‚New European Jazz’. Hurdy Gurdy player Romain Baudoin and his brother violinist/vocalist Matéu with the Mark Lotz /Alan Purves duo. Tour in sep/nov 2019.
Jazz On The Sofa
November 4th (mark the date!) will see the third edition of the living room festival ‘Jazz On The Sofa’ in my home town Zeist. Chamber music with an itch in some fantastic living spaces. An insane line up with Harmen Fraanje/Ernst Reijseger, Toon Roos/Karel Boehlee, Steven Kamperman/Ad Colen, Ramon Valle, Waka/Tiago Lageira and the debut of a duet of myself with Dutch guitarist Reinier Baas.
Lotz / Purves
We did some fantastic performances (Zomerjazz Fietstour and Germany) and received many reviews. This band is quite something! ‘Offene Ohren, Munich’ said: “Two modernists, team up to make a voyage in new invented sounds into spilled old and twisted new worlds. The two of them will provide us with new perspectives on sounds, melodies, rhythms and, incidentally, tell an insane story”. The CD Food Foragers gets an incredible amount of airplay and CD reviews.
