  In May I'll be performing Istanbul again! With the Kamil Erdem Quartet (Turkey/Istanbul) and in the best Jazzclub of all Nardis with a new band the 'Sibel Köse-Mark Lotz Quintet'. Very excited about this. Then I'll have a free improv evening at the Gitar Cafe as well going to record with some improvised musicians and electronic musicians there. Last but not least doing a flute/improv workshop at the Istanbul University. With Moldavia Calls the Tours knows already future projects in Moldavia and Ukraine. Lots of activity around that ensemble now. Heading to Ibiza in May and June in Egypt performing the Art Beat Festival with A Fula's Call. Love this life ... .

  October c's a little Tour of a new ensemble called 'Moldavia Calls' at the Music: World Series concert organisation. A collaboration of Anatol Stefanet (violin), Gary Tverdohleb (dr, vibes) Paul Pallesen (g, banjo) and myself at the borderline of Moldavian Ethno-Jazz and Dutch Jazz. April c's a Tour with a new ensemble by Haytham Safia via the same Music: World Series concert organisation. With Haytham Safia (ud), Bram Stadshouders (g), Niti Biswas (tabla), Sjahin During (perc), and myself.

  Just recorded tracks for a Cd with percussionist Gerardo Rosales and pianist Lazara Cachao Lopez. Oeff ... not easy at all that Danzon stuff up there in the third octave ... . My flute and alto flute had an overhaul by Yhsar Dagan during Christmas vacation. Incredible : feels like I got new ones.

  The first recording session with u-experimental went very fine. In a funky studio with Meinrad Kneer, Han Buhrs, Maartije den Hoorn, Felicity Provan, Joost Buis and Dana Jessen. The Cd recordings with Raj Mohan and Giovanca were quite ok as well. Curious about the results of mixing. The Global Villgae Orchestra has two new gigs in May featuring Tibetan soloist Namghyal Llhamo. Exited about this.

  The first gigs with our collaboration of A Fula's Call with the Euregio Brass, Wind and Percussion Orchestra are confirmed! Hurray. Now to work ... . Just received the new CD of Sandhya Sanjana. Really nice and great mix: flute, contra bass flute and bansuri really are loud! Love it ;-) The webzine draaiomjeoren.com published a nice review on our Bite! album.

  Together with bass player Meinrad Kneer I will record a CD documenting our u-ex(perimental) concert series. Recordings start december and will feature among others Paul Palessen, Xavier Lopez, Felicity Provan, Guillaume Heurtebize, Oguz Buyukberber. Performances ahead with Utrek City Improv Collective and Raj Mohan's new Pop band as well as a concert with Indian Ghazal's. CD recordings with Giovanca and Raj Mohan.

  Just back from Cairo. Performed the Cairo Jazz Club there with an ad hoc formation called Emergen C. It was fun. And for sure I love the Smog of Cairo. Our CD Bite! still is getting a lot of airplay in the Us. Funny how it goes .... .   Ariel Romero just informed me that our track Raga Colombiana of the Mark Lotz & Shango's Dance CD Cuban Fishes Make Good Dishes seems to be a big hit in Santiago de Cuba. Never thought of that ;-) Our CD Bite!still still is getting a lot of airplay in the Us. It made even the weekly top 10 at WEFT. .

  The Russian Newspaper Cultura published a review on our CD Bite!. Anyone an idea what they are saying?? The broadcast by 'muziekplaneet' on my music went very well. We had fun and I this time I have choosen all the long tracks of my music which probably get less airplay.

  Back from vacation. A lot of stuff happened besides having a great time and studying a lot Bansuri at Texel beach ;-) I had performances abroad: - two performances at the July Jazz Festival at Smolyan, Bulgaria with A Fula's Call. (Including a truly funky open air performance at Mount Perelik. Beautifull!). - A small gig with Pierre Abbo at Cafe du Solleil, Toulouse featuring bass virtuoso Jacky Grandjean. - And Concertgebouw Amsterdam with Giovanca in a double concert with Lilian Vierra.   2010 will c a truly funky new project. A collaboration of A Fula's Call with the Euregion Brass, Wind & Percussion from the South of the Netherlands (there you find the best of the world!). This project will tour Africa (Senegal/Gambia) and the Dutch Lowlands.

  a lot of things happend and are to come: I found two new CD's in my post were I perform along. The CD Chera by Afghanian singer Wahid Bayar (pop), CD Free by the Ad Colen Quartet (jazz). CD box 'Jazz In Germany Edition' with the track 'Blues For Yemaya' from the Lotz Of Music In Havana album (won the German: Deutscher Schallplatten Preis 2009!). Lotz of concerts heading up with Ad Colen (jazz), A Fula's Call (African world music) (feat. a little Tour in Bulagria), Raj Mohan (Indian pop), Estrella Acosta (Cuban Country), Rosie Woof, (Imrov with dance), Giovanca (R&B), Michael Baird (jam), u-ex(perimental) , (free improv) as well as workshops on Improvisation I give. CD Bite still gets nice reviews (Germany and abroad - even Ukraine!) and a lot of airplay especially in the US and Australia. The A Dutch View On Fish project now performs with cello player Jörg Brinkmann. Truly exciting artist. We are very happy to have them within our Lotz Of Music. VPRO radio invited me for their radio broadcast 'De mening van ses'. Hope the listeners could follow my heavily German accented brabbles and blurbs ... .

  Our friend and cello player Lysander Le Coultre died january 29'th in Amsterdam. We are terrible shocked by his sudden death. The just released CD Bite! of Lotz Of Music now forms his musical legacy.

  I am very excited about the november Lotz Of music recording of the multimedia project 'A Dutch View On Fish'. This time in a new setting: Albert van Veenendaal - piano & samples, Lysander Lecoultre - cello and longtime partner Alan 'Gunga' Purves on miscelanious percussion. CD will feature compositions on Fish by Michael Moore, Tjitze Vogel, Steven Kamperman, Alan Laurillard, Stefan Kruger, Ernst Reijseger and myself. I found another Cd in my postbox this month. The great new album of Sandra Mirabal & Jacob Klasse CD Cadencia with Songs from Haiti and Cuba. Recorded in 2006 luckily it found a record company now and is released.

  There is a nice article on our u-ex(perimental) concert series at Draaiomjeoren.com. This autums/winter presents a lot of international top improvisers. They hail from Canada, Mexico, Germany, USA, Italy, Russia, etc. It's really an impressive line up and we are very proud.

  Back from vacation where I performed Auch, France a free improv set with the 3D's Trio consisting out of Pierre Dayraud (dr), Maxime Delporte (bass) and Ferdinand Doumerc (tenorsax, flute). It was a lot of fun. Later we also had a session with Indian tabla master Dendisha at Pierres home. Further I found the finished and released Cd's of Konstantin Ruchardze(Georgia) and our Debut CD Odd Tango of the Kamil Erdem Quartet (Turkey/Istanbul) in my postbox. Now back to work with recording the A Dutch View On Fish album with Lotz Of Music. Performances ahead with David Haney, Wouter Hamel, BBconnected , etc. There are two great reviews published by Spin The Globe and Souveniers on our CD Liingu of A Fula's Call.

  A Fula's Call CD Liingu is released now via As De Pic Music in France, Uk and Switserland. We are very happy about this. Gigs are coming up with A Fula's Call, David Haney, Giovanca, Wouter Hamel, Mete Erker. Also somehow I get more and more requests to play Bansuri (the Indian Bamboo Flute)! Nice. Like in (pop) studio projects of Konstantin (Georgia), Wahid (Afghanistan), Rekesh (Surinam) and with Gumnaam (Netherlands). Funny how the world goes.

Anyhow vacation In Tuscani revived me (&small femili) - I tried eveything the various menu cards could offer. God what a good live .... .

  Just returned from a wonderfull trip to Turkey. First we had a great performance at the Ankara Music Festival with the Kamil Erdem Quartet and then I recorded two tracks on vocals (!), bansuri, c- and bass flute in Istanbul for the debut CD of Ud virtuoso Fatith Ahiskali. I really had a great time. Never refuse when you get invited by Turkisch people ;-). Istanbul still is my favourite city: vibrant, modern, exciting. Gosch .... hated it to return ... .

  Just returned from France where I did two concerts in Toulouse with guitar virtuoso Pierre Abbo. Back here in col' an' misty Holland still being confronted with lots of news around our Liingu album of A Fula's Call: There are nice reviews on www.jazzenzo.nl, (in Dutch) and Folker magazin (in German), placed as CD of the month at the Muziek Zonder Grenzen Radio Show in Holland. Liingu will be placed as CD of the month march at the Africabonjour radio show (US), etc etc.

  Latin Jazz Network published a very flattering Article on our latest release Liingu. And there is a great review on flyglobalmusic.com Our Tour with the Kamil Erdem Groep was a big succes. Even our premier already was a strong concert, which had a fantastic review in the Volkskrant by Ton Maas. Our music wil be documented on our debut CD we recorded last week (with me as recording engineer! Exhausting ...) There is a Turkish recordcompany releasing it possibly soon enough to be presented at our performance at the International Ankara Music Festival in April.

  This is going to be really busy month: I have a trip into Pop land with two studio gigs: Recording with Anton Goudsmit at Camp Silver for the Easy Aloha's and for Bennie Sings on a album of gorgeous vocalist Giovanca. I am on of the guest artist helding a workshop at the Rotterdam Conservatory about 'With Other Ears'. Performing with the BBconnected jazzy pop. Rehearsing and performing with Raj Mohan's Shairana for a Tour with Denise Jannah and Opera tenor Anthony Heidweiler. Rehearsing and performing Das Lied der Glocke (Symphonic work with choir) of Max Bruch with the Brederodse Consort Performing free improv at the u-ex(perimental) concert series with some really exciting guests from Korea, Germany and Italy. Working on compositions for the Tour with Kamil Erdem in January. Promoting our new Cd with A Fula's Call. Working on the Layout for a new Maxanter release and the coming Dag Van De Nederlandse Jazz flyer poster, etc. Meetings with the Music:World Series concerning concerts/future/ subsidy etc. Next to pretending to have a daily live of being a housefather, practicing, studying bansuri, teaching, playing tennis, attending Asian cook lessons, etc etc etc.

  The US/Kanada Tour with Estrella's Guaijra was a big succes. It was obvious that the Americans do not experience often a Cuban band with a distinct Cuban sound. They reacted very very enthusiastic. Further I experienced a marvelous New York Style Sirloin Steak I still dream of, as well as of some of the female college students of the WU (Wisconsin University), and of the priviledge attending a performance of living drum legend Clyde Stubblefield. It was smokin' - que bomba! And that being in his seventies right now! Just finished a Dutch Tour with Raj Mohan's Ensemble with Gheet and Ghazal's. We played Indian light classical music for a Morrocan crowd and organisation around the Ramadan together with an Gospel choir, a Turkish/Iranian Sufi ensemble and a Morrocan party band. Can live get more beautyfull? Now I am in the middle of looking for a record company interested in releasing our new CD Liingu with A Fula's Call.

  With A Fula's Call we have finished recording the last dub's (with a.o. Sandip Battacharrya on vocals and tabla and Mustapha Znaida on Gembri) for our debut CD. Mixing will be done by Rainer Kubialka of the Topaz Studio in Cologne. From september on I am a student again for North Indian Music at the Conservatory Rotterdam. Looking forward to it, especially meeting bansuri (bamboo flute) god himself = Hari Prasad Chaurasia. The Kantraki Tour with Raj Mohan's ensemble in Suriname was a big succes. We experienced compulsive eruptions of water, millions of mosquitos, countless radio and television performances, concerts for ministers, ambassadors and a whole lot of other ridiculous important people, besides having a neighbour who was crying and touching our feet because he was exposed (= here: blessed) to my daily practicing and rehearsals and made contact with a four meter Anaconda. But the most wild, exciting and dangerous encounter was the one with those four gorgeous lovely and lively ladies ... the dansers and singers of a Indian folkore group from Bihar we were sandwiched with often.

  There are some Tours coming up: With the Raj Mohan Ensemble we are heading for Suriname, Guyana and Trinidad from 28th may till 15th of june. Concerts feature radio and television appearances as well. With Estrellas Guaijrra we are heading for the US in september 2007. Also check out the TV broadcast 6'th of mei at vrije geluiden, vpro. With the Kamil Erdem Group (Istanbul/Amsterdam) we are Touring Holland in februari 2008

  There are some nice concerts coming up: With the ZuiderZee Orcestra we have several gigs - this time with a true New Wave, Pop, Rock programme. With the Raj Mohan Ensemble (a.o. in a Hindu temple at a flea market - this is a wonderful crazy world ...). Interesting u-ex(perimental) concerts are coming up with a.o. the Californian group Cosmologic around Jason Robinson, the Rotterdam Rikenik and the Norwegian improv trio Artdirectors.

  We finished the recordings (except some dub's we still have to do) with mWWm. This is going to be a really nice CD and the best I have recorded thus far. I have bought new stuff: this time a wooden Mancke headjoint and a Okada wooden concert flute. Sounds really good. Check out some Yazz flute on youtube. lol.

  The latest performance with the new band of our fabulous oud player Kerim Eharuyyen went well and had great reactions from the public. If Allah is merciful we might go to Morocco this summer. At Sarnamitv.nl you find at the last 6 minutes of the programme of 19'th of december 2006 an interview and clip of the song 'kaise badal gaile itna' performed by Raj Mohan and his Ensemble featuring also me white guy.

  Just returned from our Russian Tour with mWWm. It was wild! We had great audience and good concerts. A big sucess. We are looking forward for our Dutch gigs now featuring our guests Tibetan singer Namgyal Llhamo and tabla player Sandip Battacharrya. In december we will record our first CD for LopLop records. In the next months gigs are coming up with Raj Mohan's Indian ensemble including his CD presentation, BB Connected (a very nice jazzpop band), as a special guest with the Ad Colen Quartet and with Estrella's Guaijrra.

  Our premier with Lotz Of Music Plays: A Dutch View On Fish! worked out very well! The fish videos were excellent, went along smoothly with our music and gave the audience a quite musical underwater experience. Especially Alan Gunga Purves solos performances were quite a show. The crowd enjoyed. We are looking for more gigs now.
